10 December 2024 – On 3 December 2024, Fiona Watt, the EMBO Director, and Paul Nurse, EMBO Secretary General, hosted an expert workshop in Heidelberg to address pressing questions about governmental support for biomedical research. The participants, from diverse geographical areas, age groups, sectors and genders engaged in extensive discussions.
The participants were: Asifa Akhtar (Max Planck Society, Germany), Amanda Tian Wei Ang (National Research Foundation, Singapore), Gilles Bloch (Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle, France), Catherine Burger (Innosuisse, Switzerland), Elena Cattaneo (Italian Parliament, Italy), Eric Lander (Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, USA), Justas Nugaras (Ministry of Sports, Education and Science, Lithuania), K. VijayRaghavan (National Centre for Biological Sciences, Bangalore, India), Boris Turk (Jozef Stefan Institute, Slovenia), Alice Vickers (Forbion, The Netherlands) and Veronika von Messling (Federal Ministry of Education and Research, Germany).
