24 January 2020 – EMBO has removed the 40-year age limit from the eligibility criteria for the Young Investigator Programme. The programme is aimed at life scientists who are establishing their research groups, so applicants are still required to have become group leaders within one to four years prior to applying.
The decision to remove the age limit is intended to ensure that candidates are not excluded if they have taken out time from their research careers in order to raise families, complete national military service, recover from illness, or deal with other circumstances delaying their careers. More information about the programme and full, up-to-date eligibility criteria can be found here.
This change to the eligibility criteria is effective immediately and applies to the 2020 round of applications to the EMBO Young Investigator Programme.
