1 July 2024 – The Pera Museum in Istanbul recently hosted the “EMBO | Türkiye – Connecting life scientists” meeting, which brought together researchers from Türkiye and Europe to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange. The event aimed to support life scientists in Türkiye and Europe, connect researchers across various scientific fields and promote scientific networking.
The event was organized by Canan Atilgan from Sabanci University, Özlem Keskin-Ozkaya and Elif Nur Firat-Karalar from Koç University, Mehmet Somel from Middle East Technical University and the EMBO Fellowship Office. It saw the participation of 160 attendees, including life scientists from various European countries.
Speakers included Hasan Mandal, President of TÜBITAK, as well as members of the Fellowship Committee, further Turkish EMBO Members, Young Investigators and Installation Grantees. These speakers provided insights into current research initiatives and the support available through EMBO Programmes.
The meeting’s agenda focused on providing detailed information about the various EMBO Programmes that support life scientists in Türkiye and across Europe. It also aimed to connect researchers from different scientific disciplines and regions, promoting an interdisciplinary approach to life sciences. Additionally, the event featured the research accomplishments of Turkish scientists who are part of the EMBO community, highlighting their contributions to the global scientific landscape. Networking sessions were a crucial component of the meeting, facilitating the exchange of ideas and fostering new collaborations.
