20 November 2024 – The American Society for Cell Biology (ASCB) and EMBO are set to host Cell Bio, their annual joint meeting, in San Diego, CA, USA, from 14 to 18 December 2024. The meeting will bring together cell biologists from around the world to share their research results, explore new collaborations, and discuss the latest science and technology in the field.
Cell Bio 2024 will be co-chaired by two EMBO Members: Casper Hoogenraad, vice president of neuroscience at Genentech, represents ASCB, and Anna Philpott, pro-vice-chancellor for resources and operations at the University of Cambridge, UK, represents EMBO. “Cell Bio 2024 exemplifies the power of collaboration in science. By bringing together leading researchers in cell biology, we are accelerating discoveries that will advance our understanding of life and shape the future of medicine,” Hoogenraad says about the upcoming meeting. Philpott adds:“I am delighted to be co-chairing this year’s ASCB | EMBO meeting in December. The organizers have assembled a great programme, and I look forward to meeting up with old friends as well as making new ones from the EMBO communities in sunny San Diego.”
The keynote lecture of Cell Bio 2024 will be delivered by Lorenz Studer, director of the Center for Stem Cell Biology at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York, USA. On 14 December, the renowned stem cell researcher will talk about the Origin Stories of Cell Therapies. The EMBO Gold Medalist 2024 Elvan Böke, group leader and EMBO Young Investigator at the Centre for Genomic Regulation in Barcelona, Spain, will give her award lecture Evading ageing: metabolic and proteostatic adaptations in oocytes on 15 December. In the Cell Biology Across Continents session on 16 December, jointly organized by the Molecular Biology Society of Japan (MBSJ), EMBO and ASCB, scientists will discuss their research and share the insights they have gained from working in different environments across multiple continents.
Throughout the meeting, participants can attend a series of symposia on ageing cells and senescence, cellular complexity, intracellular aggregates and condensates, cell mechanics to gene expression, directing cell fate, plasticity in cancer, and organelle dynamics and communication. In addition to symposia and scientific sessions, Cell Bio 2024 will include professional development sessions on topics such as international relations, communications and workforce diversity, as well as many networking opportunities. There will also be poster presentations in a variety of formats and an exhibition to inform participants about new products advancing scientific research.
The meeting aims to create an inclusive environment and encourages participation from a diverse global community of researchers, educators and students. Discounted registration is available for members of the EMBO communities.
