7 June 2024 – At its recent meeting, EMBO Council elected Maria Rescigno as its Chair and Marta Miączyńska as its Vice Chair. The Council of EMBO is the body that directs and guides the organization and its activities and ensures its development with the mission to promote excellence in the life sciences.
Maria Rescigno, EMBO Member since 2011, is a full professor and vice rector for research at Humanitas University as well deputy scientific director and group leader at Humanitas Research Hospital, Milan, Italy, where she leads the immunology programme and the mucosal immunology and microbiota lab.
Marta Miączyńska, EMBO Member since 2017, is a full professor and director of the International Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology in Warsaw, Poland, where she heads the laboratory of cell biology.
“EMBO plays a crucial role in fostering a collaborative and dynamic scientific community in life sciences in Europe and beyond. We will guarantee that the EMBO Council will persist in its vital role of steering the organization, enhancing the impact of its activities, and upholding the highest standards of scientific excellence and integrity,” said Maria Rescigno.
“I am honored to assume the position of Vice Chair of the EMBO Council, and I am very excited about the opportunity to work with Maria and all colleagues at the Council. In today’s fast-paced world, EMBO should remain an organization that unites researchers and promotes life sciences,” said Marta Miączyńska.
