16 June 2021 – EMBO receives more than 1,200 applications for postdoctoral fellowships each year. Scientific excellence and international mobility are key criteria for funding. The scheme is highly competitive. Only 11-16 % of the applicants are awarded an EMBO Postdoctoral Fellowship.
There are, however, many more excellent applicants that EMBO wishes to fund but is unable because of the amount of available budget. This group of scientists now receive an Acknowledgement of Excellence to recognise the quality of their applications.
“We are pleased to provide the Acknowledgement of Excellence to applicants of the postdoctoral fellowship scheme, whom we could unfortunately not support despite their high-quality proposals,” says Kelly Sheehan-Rooney, Head of the EMBO Fellowship Programme. “We hope that these applicants will list their acknowledgement in their CV and that this will help them to further their careers when seeking funding elsewhere.”
The Acknowledgement of Excellence states that the EMBO Fellowship Committee recognised the excellence of the application but did not support the applicant with funding. These first quality seals were sent to applicants this week.
