8 February 2019 – Referred to as ‘Plan S’, the initiative mandates that scientists receiving money from a participating funder must publish their work in journals on platforms that offer immediate Open Access.
EMBO responded to the announcement with a statement, stressing the importance of not sacrificing quality publishing as a result of equating ‘open’ to ‘for free’.
The coalition behind Plan S (referred to as cOAlition S), published a document providing more detailed guidance on the implementation of Plan S in November last year. At the same time, it called for feedback on this document.
