Keynote Lectures by EMBO Members

Meeting organizers can apply for funding for an EMBO Member or EMBO Associate Member to give a keynote lecture at their major international scientific meeting. A maximum of 1,000 euro (within the same continent) and 2,000 euro (intercontinental) to cover travel, accommodation and subsistence costs will be reimbursed to the speaker, who will be requested to submit an expense claim form together with related receipts to the This email address is being protected from spambots. The lecture must be given the status of a keynote lecture, featured prominently within the programme and entitled "The EMBO Lecture”. Funding will only be provided for one EMBO Member or EMBO Associate Member per meeting. Please note that funding is not available for EMBO Keynote Lectures at EMBO Conferences, EMBO Workshops or EMBO | EMBL Symposia.

 

Applications are handled via the online application system. Please check the eligibility requirements before applying.

 

Eligibility

 

Application should be made by the meeting organizer and fulfill the following requirements:

 

  • Support will only be provided for a speaker who is an EMBO Member or an EMBO Associate Member.
  • The meeting must cover a topic from one of EMBO’s subject areas.
  • Applications must be submitted at least 4 months in advance of the meeting.
  • Funding will only be provided for one speaker per meeting.
  • The lecture has keynote lecture status, is featured prominently within the meeting programme and is entitled "The EMBO Lecture".
  • The meeting should have a geographically diverse speakers’ list.
  • At least 30% of the speakers at the meeting are female (or from the underrepresented sex).
  • Registrations must be open to all; closed interest group meetings will not be funded.
  • The meeting must be a stand-alone event; satellite meetings will not be funded.

 

Please be aware that, If the application is successful:

 

  • A selection of EMBO publicity material may be sent to the organizer for display at the meeting.
  • The EMBO logo should be included on all publicity related to the meeting
  • The speaker should be introduced at the meeting as an EMBO Member.
  • Only the travel, accommodation and subsistence costs can be reimbursed to the speaker. The following costs will not be covered:
    • stipend for the speaker;
    • meeting registration fee;
    • costs towards the general organization of the meeting.

 

Please also note that:

 

  • preference will be given to meetings where more than 100 participants are expected.
  • meetings that have undergraduate students as the target audience are considered as low priority for funding.
  • funding is not available for EMBO Keynote Lectures at EMBO Conferences, EMBO Workshops or EMBO | EMBL Symposia.

Application and Selection

 

Application deadlines: 1 February, 1 June and 1 October. Applicants will be notified within six weeks of the deadline.
